Southeast Asia emerges as a key growth engine for global digital infrastructure

In his opening address, Justin Huang, Chairman of Digital Infrastructure Technical Council (DITC) China, as well as Founder and CEO of IDCNOVA, stated that artificial intelligence is reshaping industrial landscapes, economic models and global competition, all underpinned by computing power, network connectivity and energy infrastructure. He noted that Southeast Asia has become one of the most vital growth regions for global digital infrastructure. Thanks to its unique strategic strengths, Thailand stands at the heart of this infrastructure boom.

Mr. Huang noted that Thailand currently operates 9 international submarine optical cables, with another 4 under construction, endowing the country with robust regional connectivity, low-latency international access and enhanced network resilience. In addition, favorable policies issued by BOI and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) offer international investors a full range of incentives including tax breaks, support for foreign equity ownership, improved power infrastructure and fiber-optic connectivity. All these strengths have made Thailand one of the most appealing markets for digital infrastructure across Southeast Asia.

According to statistics from K Digital Consulting, Thailand’s operational data center capacity reached approximately 350 MW in 2025, while the planned future capacity is expected to exceed 2,800 MW, reflecting strong long-term market confidence. Global cloud vendors, telecom operators, infrastructure investors and energy firms are accelerating their layout in Thailand. The country is evolving from a regional market into a strategic hub for infrastructure serving the entire Southeast Asia.

Nevertheless, the rapid expansion of AI data centers has also brought new challenges. In the AI age, competition hinges not merely on computing power, but also on power supply availability, grid stability, access to renewable energy and long-term sustainability. Countries capable of integrating computing power, energy infrastructure, policy support and ecosystem collaboration will emerge as future global hubs.

DITC believes technology builds bridges, while industrial ecosystems create long-term value. IDCNOVA aims to translate market opportunities into tangible projects, deployments and computing power resources.

With partners from Southeast Asia, China and around the world gathering in Thailand, closer collaboration and long-term commitments will help Southeast Asia grow into one of the world’s most dynamic hubs for digital infrastructure.
